If your kitchen has a number of custom color features, the best countertop for you is probably solid surface. These are artificially created out of polymers, dyes and natural minerals to create an appearance unlike any other countertop. The material itself is not very thick – only about ½” – but they’re rock hard and have a significant lifespan. The ability of the decorator to imprint unusual designs in the countertop allows for seams to be well-hidden, and stains will not stay put. Like laminate countertops, these surfaces are best installed by a professional.
